Manufacturing Process

George Sherlock furniture is made by Hand using traditional methods by skilled craftsmen in our own workshop.

Best quality frames are made from beech with dowelled, screwed and glued joints, the legs being an integral part of the frame.

Our sprung backs are upholstered having webbing attached to the frame which individual coil springs are hand sown onto, then a layer of Hessian which the springs are again sown into, fibre and then a feather & fibre cushion. The fabric is then upholstered onto this.

Seats are upholstered in a similar way again using webbing as a base on which the individual coils springs are hand sown to, then a layer of Hessian which the coil springs are again sown onto, followed by a layer of fibre, felt then the fabric.

As our standard fill our seat cushions are 100% High quality duck feather and the backs are filled with 75/15 duck feather and fibre. Cushion fillings can be changed to either a down and duck feather fill or 100% down fill cushions, or if requested we can make them in a feather wrap to make it easier to maintain and give a firmer fill.

Solid brass castors are fitted on the legs and can be finished in either brass, antique or nickel plated.

We class our selves as a green company because in all of our furniture manufacturing we use 98% of natural materials.

Every item of our Traditional handmade furniture is made to order. Either in our standard sizes or if required and possible customized to your specific measurements. It is either covered in the customer’s choice of fabric supplied by them or obtained by us for them as we hold accounts with many of the leading fabric companies, or in one of our unique range of hand dyed calicos available in seven colours.
